Heavy Trip

BIOGRAPHY

HEAVY TRIP

Heavy Pysch, hard rock, doom blues, Stoner metal

Born through guitarist Cole Jandrisch and bassist Cole Vibert’s mutual love for psychedelia,
1970s hard rock and the stoner sounds of today, Heavy Trip came to life through a series of
improvised, generator-fuelled jams around Whistler BC in 2017. During this time, the band
would play local skate parks, lakes, beaches and garages, while simultaneously building
momentum on the Vancouver underground scene, which is where “Heavy Trip” was officially
born; baptized on stage while opening up for San Diego’s Sacri Monti.

The band relocated to Vancouver in 2018 and opportunities quickly followed - support slots
for internationally touring acts such as Acid King, Dead Meadow and King Buffalo - as well as
a cross Canada tour with the mighty psych connoisseurs of Earthless. Drummer Ben Frith
joined the band in July 2019, bringing with him a connection to Vancouver’s independent
music history through his family’s ownership of Neptoon Records, one of the city’s oldest
independent record stores and the setting for Heavy Trip’s “Astrononaut” music video.
Meanwhile in the studio, the foundation was laid for what would become the sound of the
band’s early releases; riff-heavy but flowy, carefully created but adventurously performed; “If
every night in a row we played the exact same set, rock ’n’ roll would start to feel like work.”
The band’s self-titled debut “Heavy Trip” was self-released in early 2020, with 500 physical
copies pressed and sold worldwide. The album got picked up by Youtube’s 666MrDoom,
which led to additional interest and two more pressings by Burning World Records, bringing
total physical sales to around 1500 copies.

In the post-pandemic era, more music and momentum was on the horizon; Canadian shows
with Elder, YOB, Frankie and the Witch Fingers and Fu Manchu, as well as support for Black
Mountain, and a tour of California which included a Desert Daze-presented LA headline and
the kickoff of the first ever Jacumba Breakdown festival in the Sonoran Desert. Their music
also found its way beyond the traditional heavy music circuit, appearing in projects
connected to Thrasher, Burton Snowboards and professional skier Kye Peterson.
In October 2024, the band’s sophomore album “Liquid Planet” was released and celebrated
with a nearly sold-out show at Vancouver’s The Pearl. The album went on to reach 1,000
physical copies through its European repress, and the release was followed by additional
Canadian shows, including a 10-show, 11-day headline tour across the Canadian and US EastCoast, with a stop at New York’s Bowery Electric, as well as a European summer tour with
Earthless - including heavy psych rock heaven, Sonic Blast festival in Northern Portugal.

As it currently stands, the band is in the process of completing the writing of their third
album, which marks a new direction for Heavy Trip; introducing vocals and hooks for the first
time, while moving towards shorter, more direct songs without losing the individuality that
has always defined the band. The album is due to be released in 2027, with additional
touring and festivals to follow.
